This group of images is also selected from the second half of 1999, along with some from early 2000.

Calamion

Calamion
A 30" by 22.5" print of Calamion was awarded first place in the 'Computer Art' category at the 2000 Puyallup Art Fair in Puyallup, Washington. With a total attendance in 2000 of 1,312,332, it's one of tha largest art fairs in North America. Many thanks to Linda Allison. Without her encouragement and support, I would not have submitted an entry. Please visit Linda's outstanding galleries: Gumbycat's Cyberhome.

The Winged Wheel

The Winged Wheel
This one's a little tribute to my beloved Detroit Red Wings. It's created entirely with Ultra Fractal using a transformation called 'Shapes' written by Red Williams. Shapes gives you control over basic geometric figures and allows non-fractal looking images to be assembled, with a little patience, a little practice, and some basic understanding of the use of solid coloring techniques.

This one began as a parameter file submitted to the Ultra Fractal Mail List by Mikko Vainiala in March 2000, with a request for ideas on how to improve the image. Janet Preslar turned it into a game whereby list members followed a specific set of instructions until finished. Example:

Step 1: Rotate Layer 1 *only* 90 degrees clockwise.
Step 2: Delete Layer 2., and so on...

These steps were sufficiently open to individual interpretation so that everyone's final results were radically different.

With Mikko's generous consent, this is the image I obtained.
