I use the following programs to create my art:
- Ultra Fractal
Ultra Fractal is probably the biggest and most well-documented of the current fractal programs. The program has extensive help files, a tutorial for beginners, and a mailing list.
- Apophysis (for the flames)
Apophysis can be fun to play with, and it's free.
- Paint Shop Pro 7 (for antialiasing)
Sometimes I modify brightness, contrast, and saturation just a little in finished Ultra Fractal fractals, but in general the fractals come out of the program exactly as you see them in my galleries with no post-processing other than antialiasing to smooth any jagged edges. Antialiasing is explained here.
In galleries 1-5 of the regular (non-flame) fractals, some of the older fractals were made in Fractint and Stephen Fergusen's programs such as Tiera-Zon.
