Programs used to create these fractals: Fractint, Fractal Elite, which is no longer available, Tiera-Zon, Inkblot Kaos, and Ultra Fractal. The images were all antialiased in Paint Shop Pro. The Fractint fractals were created on a 486, and everything since then on a Pentium PC. |
The program I am using the most right now is Ultra Fractal (screen shot shown above). This program allows the user to create multi-layered fractals within the program. It has extensive help files, and there are many resources on the Ultra Fractal web site, such as tutorials and a mailing list you can join. |
Jean-Pierre Louvet has compiled a Fractal Art FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) that should be extremely helpful for beginners. If you are looking for fractal programs you can run on a Mac, check the FAQ, but unfortunately the newer programs like Ultra Fractal can only be run on a PC. |
Here is one of my explanations of fractals and fractal art. |
